Inspiring Interiors: Dining Room: Minimal

A highly striped wood dining table and matching shelf add warming points to this all-white dining room. Handle-free sideboard units keep the look strictly minimal, but the framed pictures and objects on top add personality – visit Ikea for a Kulla table lamp. Keep colour to a minimum to mimic this look.

Inspiring Interiors: Dining Room: Minimal

To work a truly minimal style, choose 'invisible' units that will merge into your walls and stick to neutrals – white, black and natural wood – for your furniture and finishes. This informal dining area is created at a kitchen bar, with elegant stools that add a hint of formality to the space. Visit Chaplins for a good selection of contemporary bar stools.

Dining Room: Minimal: Delicate Symmetry

The delicate frame of this minimalist Cappellini dining table - £1,652 from Twentytwentyone - echoes the shape and lightness of the window behind, creating a calming sense of symmetry. The delicate pattern of the pretty pink and green table runner adds a soft, feminine touch while the wooden Wishbone chairs add all-important warmth. For a contemporary take on Toile fabrics, £82 per metre, try Timorous Beasties.

Dining Room: Minimal: Small Space Alcove

This alcove is a perfect place for a slim dining table, the walls being close enough to act as backs for the benches, so chairs are not needed. The effect is pared down but far from cold, thanks to the exposed brick, earthy textiles and brass candle sticks. There is a similar table, £1,699, at Oka.

Dining Room: Minimal: Contrasting Neutral Zones

Even a modernist, white open-plan kitchen/diner can be zoned into cosy areas with judicious use of form and contrasting neutral tones. The stepped ceiling-light panel and black kitchen cupboards create an intimate cooking area while the half-height wall and dark wood cube stools create a cosy breakfast bar. A similar stool, £149, can be found at Marks & Spencer.

Dining Room: Minimal: Clearly Transparent

These transparent chairs speak directly to the huge windows, the magnificent architectural feature of this light-filled dining room. Sheer gossamer blinds and glossy finishes on the table and ceiling increase the light refraction to glittering effect. The 'Ghost' chair by Kartell is similarly transparent and costs £160 at John Lewis.

Dining Room: Minimal: Contrasts of Form and Colour

This room plays on contrast of both form and colour to bold effect: glossy black table and chairs sit in front of a matt white wall, and a white painted table stands in front of a black painted brick wall. The classic 'Newgate' clock, £85, is available from Bloomsbury & Co. Similar chairs, £99 for two, can be found at Made.

Dining Room: Minimal: Cool Concrete

Minimalist purists will love this concrete room, which reduces form and colour to the extreme. Steal elements of this room to bring a slab of Brutalist architecture to your dining room. For bespoke polished concrete tables, try Urbancrete and for wooden benches try Blumson.
